Meet the Chef, Augusto Maximillian

Augusto Maximillian was born in the small town of Mayumpay, Chile on august 1, 1946. He inherited his love for cooking from his parents Lorena and Donaldo Maximillian at the age of 17. Upon graduation from High school he enrolled in the culinary arts program at the University of Santiago. He did not stay there long for he did like the style of teaching there and did not like living in a big city. He moved back to his home town and convinced his father to open his own restaurant and cooking school. From that point on he learned to cook directly under his father.

Due to political unrest during the presidency of Salvador Allende, Augusto was convinced to leave Chile and move to the USA. He arrived in the San Francisco bay area in 1970. He promptly found work in various restaurants throughout the bay area, picking up more cooking styles and skills from master chef's from other countries. He grew tired of working under other chef's and decided to strike out on his own in and opened Maximillian's in 1971 in the small bay area town of Contra Loma.
